Teacher cultivates more bilingual education opportunities for children – The Japan Times
Our very own Louise George Kittaka who writes for the Japan Times, interviewed another KA mom (mum!), Mary Nobuoka about the important subject of raising bilingual children! A dilemma faced by most of us, how to keep our native language strong in the lives of children growing up in a Japanese environment. Click the link for the full article! And stay tuned to hear more from both Louise and Mary in the near future:
Excerpt: “As international marriages rose in Japan in recent years, the number of bicultural families increased, and many children of such families are being raised to speak the languages of both parents. American Mary Nobuoka, director of the Bilingualism Special Interest Group (B-SIG) and parent of a bicultural son, devotes much of her time and energy to helping other families in their journey of language and discovery.”
